Node, Edge, Arc Routing and Turn Penalties: Multiple Problems - One Neighborhood Extension
نویسنده
چکیده
This article explores a structural neighborhood decomposition for arc routing problems, in which the decisions about traversal orientations during services are made optimally as part of neighbor evaluation procedures. Using memory structures, bidirectional dynamic programming, and lower bounds, we show that a large neighborhood involving classical moves on the sequences of services along with optimal orientation decisions can be searched in amortized O(1) time per move evaluation instead of O(n) as in previous works. Because of its generality and now-reduced complexity, this approach can be efficiently applied to several variants of arc routing problems, extended into large neighborhoods such as ejection chains, and integrated into two classical metaheuristics. Our computational experiments lead to solutions of high quality on the main benchmark sets for the capacitated arc routing problem (CARP), the mixed capacitated general routing problem (MCGRP), the periodic CARP, the multi-depot CARP, and the min-max k-vehicles windy rural postman problem, with a total of 1528 instances. We also report sensitivity analyses for new MCGRP instances with turn penalties, which are uncommonly challenging yet critical for many practical applications.

متن کاملA Variable Neighborhood Descent for Arc Routing Problems with Time-Dependent Service Costs
This paper proposes a variable neighborhood descent for solving a capacitated arc routing problem with time-dependent service costs. The problem is motivated by winter gritting applications where the timing of each intervention is crucial. The variable neighborhood descent is based on neighborhood structures that manipulate arcs or sequences of arcs. Computational results are reported on proble...
متن کاملA Variable Neighborhood Search for the Capacitated Arc Routing Problem with Intermediate Facilities
In this talk we present a unified Variable Neighborhood Search (VNS) algorithm for the Capacitated Arc Routing Problem (CARP) and some of its variants the Capacitated Arc Routing Problem with Intermediate Facilities (CARPIF) and the Capacitated Arc Routing Problem with Intermediate Facilities and Length restrictions (CLARPIF). Routing problems represent one of the most prominent classes of mode...
متن کاملInvestigating Zone Pricing in a Location-Routing Problem Using a Variable Neighborhood Search Algorithm
In this paper, we assume a firm tries to determine the optimal price, vehicle route and location of the depot in each zone to maximise its profit. Therefore, in this paper zone pricing is studied which contributes to the literature of location-routing problems (LRP). Zone pricing is one of the most important pricing policies that are prevalently used by many companies. The proposed problem is v...
متن کاملLocal Search and Evolutionary Computation for Arc Routing in Garbage Collection
The paper studies hybrid solution methods for a general class of arc routing problems arising in the context of garbage collection. Important differences of basic local optimizers for arc oriented compared to node oriented problems are worked out. The initial problem is split into its routing (sequencing) and clustering part. For both problems meta-procedures that make use of the modified local...
